SG PERSPECTIVE

Hospitality with Love

Every Christian and every church can find their unique calling if they search with their heart. EFC Twin Cities is located in the Midwest region of the United States. Within close vicinity of the church is Minnesota State University, known for their holistic and special education program, and consists of over 50,000 students. For that reason, the development of the church is deeply connected to the involvement of campus ministry. If I am not mistaken, many chairpersons of the church have been graduate students who stayed in the area after completing their education. Therefore, campus ministry naturally becomes the unique mission and calling of EFC Twin Cities.

After the pandemic, I had an opportunity to lead a retreat at EFC Twin Cities. On one hand, I was excited to see many coworkers that I have not seen in years; on the other hand, I was looking forward to spending two days receiving the abundance of the Lord’s grace, there is truly nothing better! During my staying there, I unexpected followed coworkers to assist a college student getting situated. She had just moved to Twin Cities from Taiwan and was about to start school, we were able to pray for her.

Rev. Lai and the team of coworkers are always eager to help new students to resolve various living issues. From airport pickup to finding furnitures. Coworkers take students shopping, treat them to meals, all the while, coworkers are also preparing a welcome gathering. The scene reminded me of myself arriving University of Iowa some forty years ago, if only I had a church that welcomed me this way, I would have been forever grateful!

Looking at the way coworkers are taking care of the students, I was reminded of what it says in Hebrews 13:2, “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” You never know, maybe one day one of these new students, because of the loving hospitality provided by the church, will become church leader or even a pastor!
